Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has congratulated and thanked Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman for securing what he described as a “dignified result” in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on Thursday.
In a message sent to the Jamaat Ameer, the Chief Adviser expressed appreciation for the party’s active participation in the polls and its calm acceptance of the results.
“I sincerely thank you for the active and extensive participation and firm contestation of your party candidates under your leadership in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, and for accepting the election results in a calm and dignified manner,” he said.
Prof Yunus noted that Jamaat’s political decorum, restraint and responsible statements throughout the campaign and after the announcement of results contributed significantly to maintaining overall stability in the country. He particularly acknowledged the party’s calls for peaceful conduct among its activists.
The Chief Adviser also conveyed special thanks for the constructive support, advice and cooperation extended by Jamaat-e-Islami during the tenure of the interim government.
Highlighting the current national context, he said Bangladesh is passing through a crucial period marked by challenges and opportunities related to the global economy, technological transformation, climate change, human resource development and social justice.
He emphasised that strengthening democracy and making it more participatory and institutionally consolidated requires responsible and principled roles from both the government and the opposition.
“I expect that under your leadership, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will play an active role in the national parliament and political arena as a constructive and responsible opposition force,” he said.
Prof Yunus expressed hope for the development of a healthy political culture based on principled debate, legislative consultation, public accountability and national unity.
Concluding his message, he prayed for Dr Shafiqur Rahman’s good health, long life and continued well-being.
