Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has congratulated National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on his party’s performance in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, describing it as a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s democratic journey.
In a message sent to Nahid Islam, the Chief Adviser said the courage, determination and confidence with which the NCP contested the polls under his leadership would be remembered as an important chapter in the country’s democratic history.
As a new political party formed only a year ago in the backdrop of the 2024 student–people uprising, the NCP’s decision to contest 30 seats, win six, and mount strong competition in several others is an extraordinary achievement, he said.
Prof Yunus noted that the party’s success goes beyond electoral statistics and represents the aspirations, confidence and democratic spirit of the younger generation.
Recalling the turbulent events of 2024, he praised Nahid Islam’s leadership in guiding the movement with discipline and purpose. He expressed deep respect for the sacrifices made by those involved, both personally and on behalf of the nation.
The Chief Adviser also reflected on his time working alongside Nahid Islam in the Council of Advisers, commending his efficiency, principled stance, and willingness to engage with administrative processes.
Emphasising that democracy thrives on new voices and intergenerational dialogue, Prof Yunus said the NCP’s rise demonstrates growing public trust in values-based politics. He expressed hope that the party would play a constructive and responsible role in parliament, preserving its ideals while embracing the responsibilities of mainstream political engagement.
He concluded by wishing Nahid Islam good health and continued success.
