President Mohammad Sahabuddin will administer the oath to the members of the new cabinet, with the ceremony expected to take place by 18 February, Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid confirmed on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid said preparations for the swearing-in are underway at the Cabinet Division, and all necessary arrangements are being finalised to ensure a smooth transition.
“The gazette notification for the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) has already been published. According to the law, MPs must take oath within three days of the notification, which will conclude by 17 February. The formation of the new government will follow immediately after,” he said.
The Cabinet secretary added that the ceremony will be attended by around 1,000 guests, including senior government officials and dignitaries.
Responding to questions about the exact number of cabinet members, he said the composition will be determined by the prime minister, who will also be elected as the leader of the Parliament House.
“It is up to the prime minister to decide how many ministers will be included initially and whether additional members will join later,” he added.
Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid noted that the date of the oath-taking could be adjusted depending on official instructions.
“If we are directed to hold the ceremony tomorrow, we are ready. If it happens a day or two later, preparations are in place for that as well,” he said.
The announcement comes following the conclusion of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, in which the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secured a commanding majority. The swearing-in ceremony will mark the formal beginning of the new government and the transfer of executive responsibilities under the Constitution.
