The High Court on Sunday directed the authorities to keep all government and non-government lower secondary and secondary schools closed from February 18 in observance of the holy month of Ramadan.

However, the court ordered that any examinations scheduled during Ramadan must be held as planned.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Md Ashif Hasan passed the order and issued a rule after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard, petitioner Advocate Elias Ali Mondal said.

Advocate Mondal, along with Advocate Tanjina Boby Liza, moved the petition before the court.

Earlier, on 20 January, Supreme Court lawyer Md Elias Ali Mondal filed the writ seeking directives to close lower secondary and secondary schools during Ramadan. Prior to filing the petition, legal notices had been served on the secretaries of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on the same issue.
