The Council of Advisers on Sunday adopted a formal resolution expressing gratitude to all political parties involved in conducting Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election, describing the polls as “historic, successful and festive.”
The resolution was approved at the council’s 61st weekly meeting at the Chief Adviser’s Office.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus presided over the meeting.
Briefing reporters at the Foreign Service Academy, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the advisers collectively commended the smooth conduct of the polls and the outstanding efforts of all involved. Special recognition was given to Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and his ministry for orchestrating what was described as possibly the best election Bangladesh has witnessed.
The council also extended thanks to all law enforcement agencies, including the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard, Ansar and the Armed Forces, for their crucial role in maintaining a peaceful and orderly voting process.
Former cabinet secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid received a vote of thanks for his administrative leadership in ensuring free, fair and festive election.
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan moved the motion of thanks, which was unanimously approved.
The advisers highlighted that the election marked historic milestones, including broad representation of citizens who were victims of enforced disappearances, killings, and participants in the July Revolution. For the first time, a strong opposition bench in parliament will reflect the voices of these groups, alongside diverse societal representation.
