Bangladesh Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said on Sunday that the police force restored its morale and dignity through its professional conduct during the 13th National Election.

He highlighted the confidence and efficiency displayed by officers throughout the voting process.

Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Shafiqul Alam noted that prior concerns about the police’s capability - given their controversial role during the July-August 2024 Uprising - had been addressed through their performance.

“There were doubts about whether the police could manage a credible election, but officers demonstrated dedication and professionalism,” he said.

He added that body-worn cameras were deployed extensively for the first time in such a large-scale election, enhancing transparency and accountability.

The Chief Adviser personally monitored election operations from Police Headquarters for over 90 minutes, maintaining direct communication with 17 polling centres.

Shafiqul Alam also praised the use of the “Surokkha” app and CCTV surveillance, which helped coordinate election officials and monitor polling stations effectively.

Referring to post-election incidents, he said four deaths were reported, but only one was directly linked to election-related violence. Regarding a separate incident involving a woman in Hatiya, he confirmed that a probe committee would conduct a thorough investigation.

Senior Assistant Press Secretary Faiz Ahmed and Assistant Press Secretary Suchismita Tithi, among others, were also present at the briefing.
