Newly appointed Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani on Monday pledged to fulfil his duties with full commitment and diligence, saying he is determined to uphold the responsibilities of Bangladesh’s top civil service position.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, Gani said, “Alhamdulillah, at such a critical moment for the nation, a significant responsibility has been entrusted to me. InshaAllah, I will put in my best efforts and work sincerely to discharge this duty.”

He emphasised that he intends to maintain the same work ethic and approach that marked his previous tenure in government service.

“I will continue to perform my duties in the same manner I have in the past, with focus, discipline and dedication,” he added.

Gani’s appointment was officially announced on Monday through a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration. He succeeds Sheikh Abdur Rashid, whose remaining contractual tenure as cabinet secretary was cancelled by the government on 14 February.

Before assuming the top bureaucratic position, Nasimul Gani served as the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he oversaw key administrative and policy initiatives. His experience in managing law enforcement, internal security and government operations is expected to be instrumental in supporting the new cabinet as it begins its work.

It is to be noted that the cabinet secretary’s role is pivotal in ensuring smooth coordination among ministries and facilitating policy implementation at a time when the country faces significant challenges in governance, economic management and institutional reforms.

Gani’s appointment comes at a period of political transition following the recent national elections, placing him at the center of efforts to ensure stability, efficiency, and continuity within the government machinery.
