Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced a series of traffic restrictions and diversions ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected Members of Parliament and the incoming cabinet.
The swearing-in of the MPs is scheduled to take place at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday, while members of the new cabinet will be administered the oath at the South Plaza of the parliament complex.
Police expect a significant public gathering in and around the parliament area throughout the day. In response, traffic movement will be restricted at several key points from 8:00am to 7:00pm.
Drivers have been advised to avoid Manik Mia Avenue and Lake Road during the specified hours and to follow designated diversion routes to minimise congestion.
Areas Under Restriction
Vehicular movement will remain restricted from Khejur Bagan Crossing to Manik Mia Avenue, as well as along Lake Road from the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum to Urojahaj Crossing.
Authorities said the measures are temporary and aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining order during the high-profile state event.
Alternative Routes
To reduce disruption, DMP has outlined several alternative routes:
Mirpur Road to Farmgate (via Manik Mia Avenue):
Vehicles travelling from northern Dhaka towards Farmgate or Sonargaon via Mirpur Road should use Defence Gap, proceed past the China Friendship Conference Centre, continue through Urojahaj Crossing and Bijoy Sarani Crossing, and then head towards Farmgate.
Dhanmondi to Farmgate:
Vehicles from Dhanmondi 27 should travel via Asad Gate to Defence Gap, turn right towards the conference centre, pass through Urojahaj Crossing and Bijoy Sarani Crossing, and continue to Farmgate.
Asad Gate to Farmgate Crossing:
From Asad Gate, vehicles should turn left towards Ganabhaban Crossing (July Smriti Jadughar), proceed to Defence Gap, then turn right towards the conference centre, Urojahaj Crossing and Bijoy Sarani Crossing before reaching Farmgate.
Elevated Expressway or Indira Road to Dhanmondi:
Motorists should travel via Khejur Bagan Crossing, turn right towards Urojahaj Crossing, then left towards the conference centre, left again at Defence Gap, and proceed through Asad Gate to Dhanmondi.
Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi:
After the temporary blockade on Manik Mia Avenue is lifted, southbound vehicles from Mirpur Road may use the Shyamoli–Shishu Mela–Ganabhaban (July Uprising Memorial Museum)–Asad Gate route towards Dhanmondi 27.
Expressway Advisory
Commuters using the Elevated Expressway have been urged to take the FDC (Hatirjheel) ramp instead of the Farmgate exit ramp to avoid congestion near the parliament area.
Police said the traffic plan is intended to ensure smooth movement while accommodating security arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony. Motorists have been requested to cooperate and follow instructions from traffic officials on duty.
