A high-level Indian delegation, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister-elect and BNP chairman Tarique Rahman.
The delegation travelled on an Indian Air Force special aircraft, which landed at the Bangladesh Air Force Base in Dhaka.
Speaker Om Birla was received at the airbase by Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Md Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah, and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma, according to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
Birla is representing New Delhi at the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s newly elected government under the leadership of Tarique Rahman.
A press release from India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that his participation underscores the deep and enduring friendship between the peoples of the two countries and reaffirms India’s commitment to shared democratic values.
India has welcomed Bangladesh’s transition to an elected government under Tarique Rahman and expressed its intent to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the coming days.
