Tarique Rahman has been elected as the leader of BNP’s Parliamentary Party following the 13th National Parliament election.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Party held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban around 11:30am on Tuesday.

BNP Media Cell Member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed the development to reporters after the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the BNP took their oath at the Jatiya Sangsad.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath at the Oath Room of the Sangsad Bhaban at 10:43am.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, BNP lawmakers convened their first parliamentary party meeting, where Tarique Rahman was formally elected as the leader of the party in parliament.

The meeting also adopted several key decisions aimed at projecting what party leaders described as a commitment to ethical politics and public accountability.

BNP MPs resolved that they would not accept duty-free vehicles typically allotted to lawmakers. Additionally, they decided not to receive any government-allocated residential plots.

Party insiders said the decisions were intended to demonstrate restraint and distance from privileges often associated with parliamentary office.

With the parliamentary leadership now in place, BNP is expected to outline its legislative strategy and role in the new parliament in the coming days.
