Preparations are underway for the formation of a new cabinet under the leadership of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman, with officials indicating that the proposed council of ministers will consist of 49 members.
Sources at the Cabinet Division said on Tuesday that the new cabinet is expected to include 25 full ministers and 24 state ministers. In addition, three members will be inducted under the technocrat quota, bringing professional expertise into the administration alongside elected representatives.
Following the swearing-in of the newly elected Members of Parliament, BNP-nominated candidates have begun receiving official calls informing them about the arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony. The formal swearing-in is expected to take place shortly, after which ministerial portfolios will be allocated.
Among the notable inclusions in the upcoming cabinet are three women leaders. Afroza Khanam Rita is set to join as a full minister, while Shama Obaed Islam and Farzana Sharmin will take oath as state ministers. Their inclusion is being viewed by party insiders as a significant step toward greater female representation in the new administration.
Officials said detailed responsibilities and ministry assignments will be announced after the oath ceremony, marking the formal beginning of the BNP-led government’s tenure.
