Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Tarique Rahman was officially sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Tuesday, marking a historic transition following the 13th National Parliamentary Election.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad, where President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the constitutional pledge.

Earlier in the day, the BNP Parliamentary Party unanimously elected Tarique Rahman as the Leader of the House, consolidating his leadership role in the newly formed government.

Meanwhile, newly elected BNP MPs took their oath as members of the 13th Parliament.

Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath at 10:43 am, in accordance with constitutional provisions, as the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the 12th Parliament remain vacant.

Following his swearing-in, Tarique Rahman is set to officially assume office at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

According to Cabinet Division sources, his first working day will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at 10am at the National Memorial, paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs.

Afterwards, Tarique will proceed to the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat, where he is expected to arrive around 12:30pm.

At the office, he will participate in an introductory session and engage in a views-exchange meeting with senior officials of the Cabinet Division. Following lunch at the Secretariat, the Prime Minister will preside over a special cabinet meeting at 3pm to set administrative priorities and coordinate among the newly appointed ministers and state ministers.

Officials said the schedule is designed to ensure a smooth transition of power and strengthen direct communication between the prime minister and the cabinet division, signalling the formal start of the BNP-led government’s executive operations.

The day represents the first step in implementing the party’s agenda and establishing governance for the new parliamentary term.
