The new cabinet of Bangladesh, led by BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman, officially began its journey on Tuesday with the swearing-in of 49 ministers and state ministers at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath to the newly appointed members of the cabinet, marking the return of a BNP-led government after nearly two decades.
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman took oath as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, after being made leader of the BNP Parliamentary Party.
The 25 full ministers of the cabinet include Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives), Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury (Finance and Planning), Salahuddin Ahmed (Home Affairs), Iqbal Hasan Mahmud (Power, Energy and Mineral Resources), Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Liberation War Affairs), and Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain (Women and Children Affairs, Social Welfare).
Technocrat Khalilur Rahman heads the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Nitai Roy oversees Cultural Affairs, Abdul Awal Mintoo leads Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad manages Religious Affairs.
Other ministers include Mizanur Rahman Minu (Land), Khandaker Abdul Muktadir (Commerce, Industries, Textile and Jute), Ariful Haque Chowdhury (Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, Labour and Employment), Zahir Uddin Swapan (Information and Broadcasting), Aminur Rashid (Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock), Afroza Khanam Rita (Civil Aviation and Tourism), Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anee (Water Resources), Asadul Habib Dulu (Disaster Management and Relief), Md Asaduzzaman (Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs), Zakaria Taher (Housing and Public Works), Dipon Dewan (Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs), A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon (Education, Primary and Mass Education), Sardar Sakhawat Hossain (Health and Family Welfare), Fakir Mahbub Anam (Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Science and Technology), and Shaikh Rabiul Alam (Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping).
In addition, 24 state ministers were sworn in, including M Rashiduzzaman Millat (Civil Aviation and Tourism), Anindya Islam Amit (Power, Energy and Mineral Resources), Md Shariful Alam (Commerce, Industries, Textile and Jute), Farhad Hossain Azad (Water Resources), Shama Obaid Islam (Foreign Affairs), Sultan Salahuddin Tuku (Food, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock), Barrister Kayser Kamal (Land), Md Aminul Haque (Youth and Sports), Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin (Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs), and Habibur Rashid Habib (Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping).
Other state ministers include Rajib Ahsan (Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping), Md Abdul Bari (Public Administration), Mir Shahe Alam (Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives), Zonayed Saki (Finance and Planning), Ishraque Hossain (Liberation War Affairs), Farzana Sharmin (Women and Children Affairs, Social Welfare), Shaikh Faridul Islam (Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Religious Affairs, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs), Nurul Haq Nur (Labour and Employment, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment), Yasir Khan Chowdhury (Information and Broadcasting), M Iqbal Hossain (Disaster Management and Relief), M A Muhit (Health and Family Welfare, Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Science and Technology), Ahmed Sohel Manzur (Housing and Public Works), Bobby Hajjaj (Education, Primary and Mass Education), and Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam (Cultural Affairs).
With the oath-taking completed, the Tarique Rahman government has formally commenced its tenure, setting the stage for its administrative and policy agenda.
