The government of Bangladesh has formally appointed ten advisers to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, granting them the rank and privileges equivalent to ministers and state ministers.

A gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday confirmed the appointments.

The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, stated that the advisers were appointed under Rule 3(B) of the Rules of Business, 1996. The order is set to take effect shortly.

Among the ten appointees, five have been given the status of full ministers. They are: Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Md Ismail Zabiullah and Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir. Their elevation to ministerial rank indicates their significant advisory role in supporting the prime minister on key policy and administrative matters.

The remaining five advisers have been granted the status of state ministers. They include Humayun Kabir, Brig Gen (retd) Shamsul Islam, Dr Zahedur Rahman and Dr Mahdi Amin. With state minister status, they will assist in various governmental functions while working closely with the prime minister and relevant ministries.

The appointments come as the new administration consolidates its governing structure following the recent swearing-in ceremony. By conferring ministerial and state minister status on these advisers, the government has expanded its executive framework to strengthen policy coordination and implementation.

The official notification underscores that the appointments are in accordance with existing rules governing executive business, ensuring their constitutional and administrative validity.
