Newly appointed Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Wednesday declared that the era of mob culture in Bangladesh has come to an end following the landslide victory of the BNP government in the 13th Parliamentary Election.
Speaking to reporters on his first working day at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat, Salahuddin Ahmed said, “Mob culture in Bangladesh ends here. Such actions will no longer be tolerated under any circumstances.”
He emphasised that illegal blockades of highways, road occupations and violent public actions in the name of demanding rights will not be allowed.
“Logical and lawful demands will be addressed through proper channels and due process,” he added, while reaffirming that citizens retain the right to hold meetings, rallies and other legitimate democratic activities.
Salahuddin Ahmed also highlighted his government’s plan to transform the Bangladesh Police into a people-friendly institution, restoring the force’s lost image and credibility.
“The police must become a friend to the public. Their reputation, which was compromised in the past, must be restored,” he said.
The Home Minister further pledged to ensure complete transparency and accountability within the Home Ministry, stating, “No illegal lobbying or influence will be tolerated. Corrupt elements in law enforcement agencies will be brought to justice through proper investigations.”
He warned that anyone found guilty of misconduct or criminal activity within the law enforcement agencies would face immediate action.
The minister’s remarks underline the new government’s focus on law and order, institutional reform and a crackdown on corruption to establish a fair and accountable governance system in the country.
