The newly elected BNP-led government has rolled out an ambitious 180-day roadmap aimed at quickly delivering on its election promises and ensuring effective governance.

The plan was announced at the first cabinet meeting of the new administration, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday afternoon at the Secretariat.

Senior ministers said the Prime Minister directed all ministries to clearly define their responsibilities and submit detailed action plans to the Prime Minister’s Office without delay.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters that the government’s approach goes beyond the traditional 100-day programme usually adopted by incoming administrations.

“Instead of a 100-day plan, we are moving ahead with a comprehensive 180-day roadmap. Discussions have already taken place, and the details will be shared very soon,” he said.

The immediate focus will include stabilising prices of essential commodities, strengthening law and order, ensuring smooth supply chains and maintaining uninterrupted energy services, particularly gas and electricity, during the holy month of Ramadan.

State Minister for Finance and Planning Zonayed Saki said the cabinet meeting emphasised key policy directives, with attention to public relief and safety.

“The Prime Minister has asked all ministries to take necessary measures to support people, especially regarding prices, law and order, and uninterrupted electricity and energy supply,” he noted.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam added that ministries have been instructed to align their daily operations with the BNP’s election pledges.

Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan highlighted price control as a top priority ahead of Ramadan, alongside maintaining security and uninterrupted power during iftar and taraweeh hours.

All cabinet members attended the meeting, marking the formal start of the government’s executive operations following its formation on 17 February.

Ministers are expected to submit their respective action plans in the coming days, after which implementation will begin in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.
