Content creator Ashraful Alam, widely known as Hero Alam, has been arrested in a rape case by Bogura Police following a court-issued warrant, law enforcement officials confirmed on Thursday.

Police detained Ashraful Alam from the Majhira Port area under Shahjahanpur Police Station along the Dhaka–Rangpur highway. According to officers, he was intercepted after allegedly attempting to leave the area upon sensing imminent arrest.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mostafa Manzur said the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court in Bogura issued an arrest warrant on 10 February in connection with a rape case investigated by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The PBI investigation report stated that Ashraful Alam allegedly raped a woman identified as Sadia Rahman Mithila by luring her with promises of marriage. The report further alleged that he assured her of opportunities in the film industry and later subjected her to physical and mental abuse.

According to the investigation findings, the accused allegedly forced the complainant to undergo an abortion and later refused to marry her or accept responsibility for the child.

Sadia Rahman Mithila filed the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on 11 April last year after the accused reportedly declined to formalise the relationship.

Police confirmed that following his arrest, Ashraful Alam was produced before the court for further legal proceedings.

Law enforcement authorities said the case will now proceed in accordance with the provisions of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, which governs serious offences against women and children in Bangladesh.
