Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has announced a tougher stance against drugs, terrorism and harassment in educational institutions, signalling an expansion of enforcement efforts following an ongoing campaign to curb examination malpractice.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with local officials at the Kachua Upazila Parishad auditorium on Friday, the minister said new measures would initially be implemented in Kachua upazila, where a drive against copying in examinations has already produced what he described as encouraging outcomes.
He said similar coordinated efforts would now be undertaken to ensure that educational campuses remain free from drugs and violence. According to the minister, maintaining discipline and security within schools and colleges is essential to safeguarding the learning environment.
Milon added that broader efforts to promote integrity and accountability would continue, describing the government’s objective as building a corruption-free and more prosperous Bangladesh. He expressed confidence that sustained reform initiatives would contribute to long-term national development.
Earlier in the day, the minister was received by senior district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police. During his visit, he also met members of the local Hindu community and participated in their religious and social events.
Political leaders and supporters welcomed Milon on his first visit to his constituency following his appointment as education minister and election as a member of parliament.
The minister’s remarks come amid wider government efforts to strengthen oversight in the education sector, with a focus on improving standards, discipline and institutional accountability.
