Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan on Saturday paid rich tributes to the Language Martyrs on the occasion of Great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day.
In the first hour of the day, he laid a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, the minister said the spirit of Ekushey February inspires the nation to stand firm against injustice and oppression.
“Language is not just a medium of communication; it is the foundation of our culture, identity and national consciousness,” he said.
He added that the government remains committed to preserving, practising and promoting the mother tongues of all ethnic communities across the country, including those in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
In a multilingual and multicultural Bangladesh, Dipen Dewan urged everyone to remain united in mutual respect and communal harmony and to work together to advance the country’s development.
Cabinet members, senior government officials, and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion.
