A man was killed and his young son injured after their motorcycle was struck by a pickup van in Chakaria upazila early on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Nurul Hossain, 45, a resident of Baraitali Union in the upazila. His son, Shamim Hossain, 11, sustained critical injuries in the accident.
The collision occurred around 2:00am on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway near the Nolbila Beat-cum-Check Post area under Chakaria upazila.
According to highway police and local sources, Nurul Hossain and his son were travelling towards Chakaria municipality town when their motorcycle was hit by a pickup van in the Nolbila area, leaving both critically injured.
Locals rescued them and took them to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Nurul Hossain dead. As Shamim’s condition worsened, he was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Officer-in-Charge of Chiringa Highway Police Station Md Ariful Amin confirmed the incident.
The pickup van has been seized, but its driver managed to flee. Legal action over the accident is currently underway.
