A motorcyclist was killed and another critically injured after their motorcycle was hit by a truck in Jhenidah town on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shahriar Rahman Shanto, 31, son of Shaheen Rahman of Dukkhi Mahmud Road in Arappur village of the town.
The injured, Toton Mia, is the son of Abdus Sattar from the Beparipara area in Jhenidah town.
The accident occurred around 10:00pm in the Pabohati Kolarhat area under Jhenidah municipality.
In charge of Arappur Highway Police Camp, Mrityunjoy Biswas, said a truck rammed the motorcycle in the area and fled the scene, leaving the two riders seriously injured.
Locals rescued them and rushed them to Jhenidah 250-Bed General Hospital, where doctors on duty declared Shanto dead on arrival. Emergency Medical Officer Dr Tapas said Shanto had already died before reaching the hospital.
The injured Toton Mia was later referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
