Newly appointed Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee on Saturday said that no separate oath would be required for the ‘yes’ vote in the recent referendum, stating that the outcome would automatically come into effect once the Jatiya Sangsad is in session.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement at the Shaheed Minar in Lakshmipur.

“The national election has already been completed and the members of parliament have taken their oath. A referendum was held and the ‘yes’ vote has won. There is no need for any additional oath-taking ceremony. The decision will automatically be effective when parliament is in session,” said the minister.

Anee emphasised that the constitutional process had been duly followed and that there should be no confusion regarding the implementation of the referendum’s outcome.

According to him, the parliamentary framework already provides the necessary legal foundation for the decision to take effect without further formalities.

In his remarks, the minister also called on citizens to distance themselves from what he described as “mob culture,” warning that such practices undermine social order and national progress.

“Mob culture means creating chaos and disorder. If instability is encouraged, it will hinder the process of building Bangladesh. Those who create obstacles to the country’s development will eventually become enemies of the nation,” he said.

He urged all sections of society to uphold discipline, respect democratic processes and contribute constructively to nation-building efforts.

Among others present at the tribute ceremony were Lakshmipur District BNP’s Member Secretary Sahab Uddin Sabu and Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman, and Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy.
