The Election Commission (EC) has said that by-elections to the Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 parliamentary constituencies are expected to be held before 14 April.
EC sources confirmed the information on Sunday.
Bogura-6 fell vacant after BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, who was elected from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 in the 13th National Parliamentary Elections held on 12 February, submitted his resignation from Bogura-6 to the commission on 16 February. His resignation took effect from that date.
Meanwhile, the Sherpur-3 seat (Sreebardi–Jhenaigati) became vacant following the death of Nuruzzaman Badal, the Jamaat-e-Islami-nominated candidate, who passed away at around 3am on 3 February due to kidney-related complications while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the EC postponed the election in Sherpur-3 after the death of a valid candidate, triggering the need for a fresh poll in the constituency.
The commission is now taking preparations to conduct the by-election within the stipulated timeframe, officials said.
