Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said the government will not tolerate corruption in the education sector and will ensure that legitimate teacher demands are addressed through institutional channels.
He made the remarks on Sunday after a meeting with the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance at the Secretariat.
“We are sincere about education. Teachers will no longer need to take to the streets to press for their demands,” the minister said, adding that grievances and policy concerns should be resolved through dialogue.
Milon said issues related to teacher evaluations and other justified demands, including adjustments to pay scales for teachers and staff, would be forwarded to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for consideration.
He also said steps would be taken to improve coordination and consistency among the three categories of education curricula to ensure better alignment across the system.
Referring to the demand for a 100 per cent Eid bonus, the minister said the proposal would be reviewed and discussed with the Prime Minister. As the issue was not included in the current budget, further consultations would be required before any decision is taken.
He reiterated that corruption would not be allowed within the ministry and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone engaging in malpractice.
