Bangladesh Army on Sunday announced a major reshuffle in its senior leadership, issuing a series of key appointments and transfers involving top command positions.

The orders were released from Army Headquarters at noon, according to a source at the Ministry of Defence.

Lieutenant General Mainur Rahman has been appointed Chief of General Staff, one of the most senior staff positions in the Army. He previously served as General Officer Commanding of the Area Readiness and Training Doctrine Command.

Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan, who served as Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, has been transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he will take up an ambassadorial assignment.

Major General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman has been appointed as the new Principal Staff Officer, replacing Lt Gen Kamrul Hasan. He previously served as General Officer Commanding of the 24th Infantry Division.

Other changes include Major General JM Imdadul Islam’s transfer from the 55th Infantry Division to the East Bengal Regimental Centre.

Major General Ferdous Hasan has been appointed General Officer Commanding of the 24th Infantry Division after previously serving as Commandant of the East Bengal Regimental Centre.

In addition, Brigadier General Md Hafizur Rahman - previously posted at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi - has been promoted to Major General and appointed GOC of the 55th Infantry Division.

The reshuffle reflects routine structural adjustments within the Army’s senior command framework, officials said.
