Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Sunday urged officials to move beyond outdated approaches and work towards building a modern, time-appropriate primary education system in Bangladesh.
He made the call while addressing an introductory meeting with ministry officials at the Secretariat, stressing the need for innovation and creativity to make the national education system more effective and relevant.
“Our primary education system must be aligned with the demands of the present time. We have to break away from conventional thinking and adopt modern methods,” the minister said.
Milon emphasised transparency and good governance as central to reform efforts, noting that ensuring a corruption-free secretariat alone would not be enough.
“Accountability and transparency must be ensured in every department and agency under the ministry,” he said.
He added that bringing visible and sustainable improvements to the primary education sector through sound governance remains a key objective of the current government.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, who was present at the meeting, described primary education as the foundation of the overall education structure.
He acknowledged that expected standards have not yet been achieved and stressed that broader educational development depends on strengthening the primary level.
Joint Secretary Nurun Nahar gave a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the ministry’s activities, ongoing projects and future plans.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
