Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad on Sunday warned that the government would take strict action against any irregularities or negligence in the management of the upcoming Hajj.

Addressing a views-exchange meeting with ministry officials at his office, the minister said there would be zero tolerance for misconduct in organising one of the most significant religious events for Bangladeshi pilgrims.

“The government will not spare anyone for even the slightest deviation in this regard,” he said, adding that the same strict standard would apply to all regular activities of the ministry.

Kaikobad stressed that merely following instructions to appear compliant was not enough.

“There is no point in pretending to be a good officer. To attain Allah’s satisfaction and earn one’s salary in a lawful (halal) way, responsibilities must be fulfilled properly,” he said.

He emphasised that meaningful service delivery and efficiency should define the relationship between the minister and officials.

“If you take one step forward in implementing government decisions, I will take three steps towards you,” he remarked.

The minister also encouraged transparency, asking officials to inform him if any directive conflicted with existing rules.

He assured them that they could approach him with professional or personal concerns.

Earlier, he was briefed on the ministry’s activities.

Secretary M Kamal Uddin and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
