US-Bangladesh relations were reaffirmed on Monday as US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen met Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, signalling Washington’s intention to deepen bilateral cooperation under the country’s new diplomatic leadership.
Brent Christensen conveyed formal congratulations to Khalilur Rahman on assuming office as foreign minister and reiterated the United States’ commitment to working closely with Dhaka to strengthen political, economic and strategic ties. The meeting took place at the foreign ministry headquarters in the capital, underscoring the official nature of the engagement.
During the discussions, the US envoy emphasised Washington’s objective of continuing collaboration with Bangladesh to advance mutual security, economic resilience and institutional cooperation. The exchange reflected continuity in diplomatic engagement between the two governments at a time of shifting regional dynamics in South Asia and the wider Indo-Pacific.
Foreign policy analysts note that US-Bangladesh relations encompass trade, development assistance, governance dialogue and regional security coordination. The United States remains one of Bangladesh’s largest export destinations, while Dhaka is a key partner in regional maritime stability and economic connectivity initiatives.
Earlier on Monday, Brent Christensen also held a courtesy meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam in Dhaka. The sequence of meetings indicates sustained high-level diplomatic engagement following the appointment of the new foreign minister.
Monday’s meeting sets the tone for continued institutional dialogue under Khalilur Rahman’s tenure, reinforcing US-Bangladesh relations as a stable pillar of bilateral engagement in the region.
