Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has urged newly recruited officials to prioritise public interest and serve the state with honesty, dedication and accountability.
He made the call while addressing the closing ceremony of a seven-day induction training programme for 32 officers of the 44th BCS (Roads and Highways) cadre at the conference room of the Road Transport and Highways Division on Monday.
The minister said that after completing their training, the officers would assume full responsibility in implementing development projects and performing their professional duties.
He reminded them that they have been appointed to serve national needs and must always keep that responsibility in mind.
“It is not easy to dedicate ourselves to the interests of the state, as challenges and obstacles will come. However, young officers can create meaningful change if they remain committed,” he said.
Rabiul Alam emphasised that public funds ultimately belong to the people and therefore must be used responsibly.
He stressed the importance of avoiding waste in construction projects, ensuring rational expenditure and maintaining transparency in infrastructure development.
He also said that integrity and ethical conduct are the core strengths of any public servant and encouraged the officers to build their careers on those principles.
State Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways and Shipping Habibur Rashid attended the event as special guest.
He said, “We must build the future of Bangladesh together. Young officials are the leaders of that future.”
Pointing to the importance of road safety, he added that road closures affect millions, stressing the need to keep traffic smooth, construction costs reasonable, and infrastructure safe.
The state minister expressed hope that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, a safe and humane Bangladesh will be built through the combined efforts of young officers and experienced personnel.
Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Dr Mohammad Ziaul Haque, Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer Syed Moinul Hasan, and Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Faruque Ahmed, among others, were also present at the programme.
