Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita has said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will take a strict stance against corruption, illegal toll collection and terrorism in society.

She made the remarks while speaking at a views-exchange meeting with journalists from print and electronic media at the Manikganj Circuit House on Monday.

The minister said maintaining law and order and ensuring transparency in governance remain key priorities for the government.

She emphasised that any form of corruption or unlawful toll collection would not be tolerated.

She also highlighted that priority is being given to the construction and development of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to enhance passenger capacity and improve services.

Regarding Hajj management, the minister said the government would ensure smooth and hassle-free arrangements for pilgrims as well as strengthened security for expatriates travelling through airports.

Addressing local issues, Afroza Khanam Rita said she is committed to resolving problems faced by the people of Manikganj, who supported her in the election.

The minister noted that river erosion continues to affect residents of the district and said permanent solutions would be explored through relevant development projects. She also announced plans to promote tourism-based initiatives along the Jamuna and Padma rivers and renovate historical landmarks, including the Baliati Zamindar Palace.

Later on, she met senior lawyers and exchanged views with departmental officials at separate meetings in the district.

She also offered Fateha at the graves of her late father, Minister Harunar Rashid Khan Monno, and former Chief Whip Khandakar Delwar Hossain.
