Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said earning the trust of the people is the foremost objective of the present government, urging field-level officials to ensure transparency, accountability and people-friendly services.

He made the remarks while addressing a views-exchange meeting with government officials of Rangpur Division at the Divisional Commissioner’s conference room on Monday.

The meeting was organised by the Rangpur Divisional Commissioner’s Office and presided over by Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam.

Dulu emphasised that district administrations play a pivotal role in implementing development programmes at the grassroots level, while police administrations must ensure law and order to safeguard citizens.

He called for coordinated initiatives to prevent corruption, curb social crimes and drug abuse, protect women and children, and strengthen disaster preparedness.

Highlighting the longstanding challenges of Rangpur Division, the minister stressed the need for joint efforts to reduce poverty, generate employment, expand infrastructure, boost agricultural output and improve education and healthcare services.

Speaking to journalists later, Dulu said the BNP-led government is committed to fulfilling people’s demands on a priority basis.

Referring to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s pledge ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election, he noted plans to establish industrial factories in the region to create jobs.

On the Teesta issue, he said integrated projects focusing on river governance and dredging would be undertaken to meet the aspirations of the region’s people.
