Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has a new administrator after M Abdus Salam formally assumed office, marking a leadership change aimed at strengthening urban governance and service delivery in the capital.

M Abdus Salam, a valiant freedom fighter, took charge on Tuesday from Local Government Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Dhaka. The transition follows his appointment by presidential order.

A gazette notification confirming the appointment was issued earlier, signed by Joint Secretary Mahbuba Iyreen. According to official sources, the move is intended to make DSCC’s administrative operations and citizen services more dynamic and effective.

The Dhaka South City Corporation plays a central role in managing urban infrastructure, waste management, civic amenities and development programmes across a large section of the capital. The administrator is expected to oversee ongoing development projects and coordinate overall urban management activities.

Officials indicated that under the current arrangement, the administrator will lead development initiatives and supervise operational matters to ensure continuity in municipal services.

The appointment comes at a time when urban governance and service efficiency remain key priorities for Dhaka, one of the most densely populated cities in South Asia.
