Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government will review cases allegedly filed to harass innocent individuals after 5 August 2024, in the aftermath of the July Uprising.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the minister acknowledged that complaints had emerged regarding what he described as “mamlabazi” - the malicious filing of cases to target individuals without sufficient grounds.
He said certain vested quarters had taken advantage of the post-uprising situation by implicating people in various cases for personal or political motives.
“Some of these cases have come to our notice. We will scrutinise them carefully and take appropriate action where necessary,” Salahuddin said.
The minister stressed that while the government remains committed to maintaining law and order, it will not allow the legal system to be misused as a tool of harassment.
He reiterated that upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for all citizens remain top priorities.
“If anyone has been harassed through baseless or malicious cases, legal steps will be taken after proper review,” he added.
Officials concerned will examine the complaints and verify whether due procedures were followed in filing such cases, Salahuddin said, adding that corrective measures would be taken in line with existing laws.
The minister’s remarks come amid broader discussions about restoring public confidence in the justice system following the political changes triggered by the mass movement.
