The government of Bangladesh has appointed Md Ali Hossain Fakir as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), replacing Baharul Alam, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.
Before his promotion, Ali Hossain Fakir served as Additional IGP and as the chief of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
The official order states that the appointment takes effect immediately.
A member of the 15th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre, Fakir hails from Bagerhat District. Throughout his career, he has held several key positions within the police administration and has been recognised for his professional expertise and leadership capabilities.
Officials said his experience in leading important units, including operational and specialised policing formations, contributed to his elevation to the top post of the national police force.
The home ministry’s notification formally confirmed the change in leadership, signalling a transition at the highest level of police administration.
With the new appointment, authorities expect continued reforms and strengthened coordination within law enforcement agencies to maintain public order and security across the country.
