Food, Fisheries and Livestock, and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid has outlined an ambitious vision to strengthen food security and build a sustainable system that can serve future generations while ensuring strict quality control and global competitiveness.

Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with senior officials of the Directorate General of Food at the Khaddo Bhaban conference room in the capital on Tuesday, the minister said his goal is to create a lasting institutional framework that will stand as a model for future administrations.

He emphasised that his focus is on moving beyond criticism and rhetoric towards practical implementation.

“I have come to work for the welfare of the people. The time I spend here must produce meaningful results,” he said, urging officials to develop systems that ensure efficiency, integrity and accountability.

Amin Ur Rashid highlighted concerns over food safety, noting that tests have revealed excessive levels of heavy metals in some domestic food products.

He stressed the urgent need to eliminate contamination from the food chain while ensuring a stable supply of essential commodities.

A key element of his plan involves modernising the Bangladesh Safe Food Authority to align its standards with international benchmarks.

He said efforts would be made to strengthen the authority so that certification processes achieve recognition comparable to global regulators such as the USFDA, enabling broader export opportunities.

State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Food Secretary Md Firoz Sarkar also addressed the meeting, emphasising food security, transparency and stronger institutional coordination.

Officials pledged to implement government directives with commitment and warned against misinformation within the department.
