Ten PM advisers assigned ministries, policy responsibilities

The government of Bangladesh has formally allocated responsibilities and ministries to 10 advisers to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, clarifying their roles after a gazette notification was issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday.

According to the notification, five advisers have been given the status equivalent to ministers, while another five have been appointed with the rank of state ministers and assigned specific ministries and policy areas.

Among the advisers holding ministerial rank, three have been designated as political advisers - Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed. In addition, Md Ismail Zabiullah has been appointed adviser to the Ministry of Public Administration, while Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir has been assigned to the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Five advisers with the rank of state minister have been given oversight responsibilities across different ministries and policy sectors. Humayun Kabir will oversee the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism. Brigadier General (retd) Shamsul Islam has been assigned to the Ministry of Defence.

Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has been tasked with policy and strategic coordination. Mahdi Amin will serve as adviser to multiple ministries including Primary and Mass Education, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Labour and Employment.

Meanwhile, Rehan Asif Asad has been appointed adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology as well as the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Officials said the allocation aims to streamline governance and ensure clearer coordination among key sectors.
