Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain has directed authorities to ensure the highest level of medical treatment for victims injured in separate gas explosion incidents in Halishahar of Chattogram and Daudkandi of Cumilla.
The minister issued the directive while visiting the injured at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) in the capital on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the visit, Sakhawat Hossain said nine members of a single family were burned in a gas line leakage explosion in Halishahar. Three of them have died, while six are currently receiving treatment. One patient remains on life support, he added.
“I have come to see them. Proper treatment of the admitted patients is being ensured,” the minister said.
He also noted that four members of another family were injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Daudkandi and admitted to the burn institute on Tuesday morning. Two of them are in critical condition.
The minister said physicians have been instructed to provide maximum medical support to all injured patients.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu accompanied him during the visit.
He told reporters that gas leakage-related accidents occur across the country throughout the year and stressed the need for preventive measures.
Referring to the recent incidents, Dulu called for coordinated efforts among the Ministries of Industries, Health, and Disaster Management and Relief to regulate expired gas cylinders and reduce such accidents.
He said a joint meeting would be held soon to determine effective steps.
Calling the incidents tragic, he assured that necessary support would be extended to the affected families.
