Bangladesh and Malaysia have agreed to strengthen religious cooperation, focusing on Hajj management, zakat administration and religious education systems, following a virtual meeting between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.

Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad and Malaysian Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan held the online meeting to discuss policy coordination and institutional collaboration in the religious affairs sector, according to an official handout issued in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad emphasised the exchange of mutual experience and best practices to improve Hajj management frameworks, enhance transparency in zakat administration and modernise religious education systems. He underscored the need to increase operational efficiency in conducting Hajj activities and to build the capacity of relevant officials through structured training and governance reforms.

The two ministers discussed strengthening regulatory oversight in pilgrimage management and improving administrative mechanisms to ensure accountability and service quality for pilgrims. They also explored ways to align religious education with contemporary requirements while maintaining institutional standards.

Both sides expressed optimism that Bangladesh-Malaysia religious cooperation would expand in the coming years through policy dialogue, knowledge exchange and coordinated programmes between relevant authorities in Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur.

The engagement reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts between Bangladesh and Malaysia to deepen bilateral cooperation across social, institutional and governance sectors.
