Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Wednesday indicated that more administrative changes may follow as the newly formed government begins implementing its policy priorities.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Finance at the Bangladesh Secretariat, Khasru said it is natural for a new administration to introduce adjustments in key positions to align with its programmes and plans.

“When a new government takes office, it comes with its own priorities, preferences and vision. In such circumstances, changes are quite normal,” he said.

Responding to questions about the appointment of a new governor at Bangladesh Bank, the finance minister said the move should not be viewed as unusual.

He emphasised that similar adjustments are occurring in different sectors as part of routine restructuring.

“There is no particular reason behind this decision. Changes are not limited to the central bank; they are taking place in various areas,” he said, adding that further changes may be seen in the coming days.

Earlier in the day, the Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry issued a gazette notification appointing Md Mostaqur Rahman FCMA as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank, replacing Dr Ahsan H Mansur.

When asked whether the swift replacement signalled any underlying issue, Khasru dismissed speculation, reiterating that the reshuffle is part of the broader administrative adjustments being undertaken to realise the government’s objectives.

He said reforms and leadership changes would be introduced wherever necessary to ensure alignment with the administration’s development agenda and economic strategy.
