New Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir paid tribute at the Rajarbagh Police Memorial in Dhaka on Thursday, reaffirming the Bangladesh Police’s institutional commitment to the Liberation War legacy and national security governance. The Rajarbagh Police Memorial tribute took place at the historic Rajarbagh Police Lines, a site central to Bangladesh’s independence history.

Md Ali Hossain Fakir placed a wreath at the Police Memorial at 10:00am, honouring the martyred police personnel who resisted Pakistani occupation forces on the night of 25 March 1971. Rajarbagh Police Lines is recognised as the location where members of the police force mounted the first armed resistance during the Liberation War.

Following the wreath-laying, Md Ali Hossain Fakir observed a period of silence in remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence. Senior officials from Police Headquarters and other units attended the ceremony, signalling continuity in institutional leadership and operational command under the new Inspector General of Police.

The tribute at Rajarbagh underscores the role of Bangladesh Police as a constitutional law enforcement authority operating under national policy frameworks shaped by the ideals of the Liberation War. The event also marks the beginning of Md Ali Hossain Fakir’s tenure as Inspector General of Police, the highest-ranking position within the force responsible for strategic direction, public security and internal discipline.

The Rajarbagh memorial ceremony reflects ongoing state recognition of the police force’s historical contribution to independence and its present-day mandate to uphold law, order and public administration across Bangladesh.
