Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday announced that the government will soon fill the vacant posts of 180 sergeants and 10,000 constables as part of broader efforts to enhance the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies.
He said the recruitment process has been set in motion and will be accelerated to ensure that the vacancies are filled in a timely and transparent manner.
The initiative aims to strengthen policing efficiency and improve public safety across the country.
According to the minister, filling the vacant positions is essential to reduce pressure on existing personnel and ensure better coordination in maintaining law and order.
He added that strengthening manpower in key operational roles would contribute to more effective traffic management, crime prevention and public service delivery.
Officials concerned said the necessary administrative and procedural steps have already been initiated. The recruitment will follow established guidelines to ensure merit-based selection and compliance with government regulations.
Authorities view the move as part of ongoing reforms to modernise the law enforcement framework and address manpower shortages in critical positions.
Government officials emphasised that timely recruitment will help improve response capacity and operational readiness within the police structure.
Filling these posts has been prioritised to reinforce institutional capacity and enhance overall security management nationwide.
