Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday attended office despite the weekly government holiday and called on officials to accelerate implementation of the ruling party’s election manifesto, stressing that public expectations must be met through sincere and coordinated efforts.

Arriving at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Tejgaon at around 10:15am, he held a meeting with officials and staff at the Shapla Hall, marking his first formal interaction with PMO employees since assuming office on 17 February.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the people of Bangladesh have placed their trust in the government through a fair election and now expect visible change.

“You are part of this government. We must work together to change the destiny of our people,” he said.

He underscored the need to implement the BNP’s election manifesto in line with its commitments, particularly in priority sectors such as health, education, women’s empowerment, employment generation and sports.

Emphasising citizen security, he said people must feel safe in their daily lives.

Tarique Rahman also called for stronger administrative discipline, adherence to rules and regulations, and necessary confidentiality in matters of state interest.

He expressed hope that officials would actively support efforts to eliminate corruption and ensure good governance.

According to Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon, the Prime Minister travelled from his Gulshan residence to the PMO in the morning and directed officials to expedite priority initiatives.

Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar delivered the welcome address, while PMO Director General Mohammad Abdul Wadud Chowdhury presented an overview of the office’s structure and functions.

Several advisers, including Mirza Abbas, Ismail Zabiullah, Humayun Kabir, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Brig Gen (retd) ATM Shamsul Islam and Zahedur Rahman, were also present at that time.

Since taking office, Tarique Rahman has been attending the PMO even on Saturdays, signalling his intent to maintain momentum in governance and policy execution.
