The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced a 10-day special “crash programme” starting from Sunday to intensify efforts to control the growing mosquito population within its jurisdiction.

DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam declared a zero-tolerance policy toward negligence in mosquito control activities and directed concerned officials to ensure strict implementation of the programme without any delay.

The announcement was made at an emergency meeting held at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium in the city on Saturday, where officials from the health department’s mosquito control wing attended and discussed operational strategies.

The special drive will involve coordinated action by city corporation officials, with active participation from local residents to maximise effectiveness.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on ensuring the proper and effective use of insecticides, following standard application procedures, and strengthening field-level monitoring.

Authorities also instructed the health department to work closely with the waste management division to enhance overall mosquito control measures.

Abdus Salam warned that any negligence, corruption, or failure in executing mosquito control duties would face strict administrative action, reiterating the corporation’s commitment to accountability.

He said he would personally conduct regular field inspections to monitor progress and ensure transparency in implementation.

Officials also discussed improving the skills of mosquito control workers through training programmes and testing new, more effective alternatives to existing insecticides.

The administrator further directed authorities to take legal action, including mobile court operations, against government and private entities where mosquito breeding grounds are found and repeated warnings are ignored.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Jahirul Islam, Secretary Mohammad Nasim Ahmed, Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md Mahabubur Rahman Talukder, and other divisional and regional officials, among others, also attended the meeting.
