LGRD Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that preparations are underway to begin student admissions at Thakurgaon Medical College by 2027, following ongoing inspection and development work at the project site.

He made the remarks during a press briefing after a more than three-and-a-half-hour exchange of views with heads of government offices at the Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner’s conference room on Saturday.

Fakhrul said a dedicated team is currently overseeing the construction progress of the medical college hospital and monitoring the site to ensure timely completion. Officials involved in the project have assured that admission activities can commence in 2027 if the work progresses as scheduled.

The LGRD minister emphasised that priority is being given to improving healthcare facilities in the district and strengthening existing hospital services. Development of municipal infrastructure and acceleration of ongoing agriculture-related projects were also highlighted during the discussion.

He said efforts are being made to enhance food security and expand employment opportunities for youth and women.

He announced that a pilot project to introduce family cards, as pledged by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, will begin within this month in Rahimanpur Union.

Responding to questions on corruption allegations involving local officials, Fakhrul said relevant authorities, including the Anti-Corruption Commission, are empowered to investigate and take appropriate action.

He reiterated that the BNP government does not tolerate corruption.

He also stated that improvements to the railway network and other infrastructure projects in the region remain part of broader development plans.

The meeting focused on coordination between government departments to ensure smoother implementation of public service and development initiatives.
