Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh has begun a new democratic journey following the recently held national election, urging political parties to unite in working for the welfare of the people.

He made the remarks while attending an iftar programme hosted by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Saturday evening. The prime minister arrived at the venue around 5:30pm to join the event.

Addressing political leaders and invited guests, Tarique Rahman said the election marked the start of a renewed democratic process and that citizens are looking at political parties with high expectations.

“At this important time, we have all come together. Through the election, the journey of democracy has begun,” he said, adding that parties must take an oath to dedicate their efforts to improving the lives of the people.

He urged participants to pray for divine guidance so that they can fulfil public expectations and work towards transforming the country’s future.

The Prime Minister also reflected on the sacrifices made in the long struggle to restore democratic rights, noting that people endured persecution and hardship to regain freedom of speech and political participation.

The iftar gathering brought together leaders from BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and other political parties.

Key attendees included Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon, senior BNP leaders Mirza Abbas and Moin Khan, and representatives from various political parties and organisations.

Tarique thanked Jamaat leaders for inviting him and reiterated that cooperation among political forces is essential for national progress and stability.
