State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque on Sunday expressed deep concern over the security of Bangladeshi nationals residing in various Middle Eastern countries amid escalating tensions linked to recent Iran-related attacks.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with heads of district administration offices at the Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner’s office, the state minister said the government is closely monitoring the evolving situation.
“We are worried about our large expatriate community working across the Middle East following the recent developments. However, the Prime Minister has already recognised the seriousness of the matter and provided clear instructions,” he said.
Nurul Haque noted that the Prime Minister has directed the relevant authorities to coordinate closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi citizens in affected areas.
He said the immediate focus is on helping expatriates remain vigilant and, where necessary, relocate to safer locations.
“So far, we have not received any reports of major casualties among our nationals,” he said.
However, he confirmed that four Bangladeshis were injured in a drone strike at Kuwait airport.
He also mentioned a missile-related incident near the residence of Bangladesh’s chief consultant in Dubai, adding that the official was unharmed.
The state minister further said that several flights bound for Middle Eastern destinations were suspended due to the situation. Following the Prime Minister’s directives, authorities arranged accommodation for approximately 850 passengers whose flights were cancelled.
He assured that the government would continue to monitor developments and take prompt measures to safeguard Bangladeshi expatriates.
