Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has issued clear directives to ensure proper rehabilitation and support for the families of those martyred and injured during the July uprising.
The minister made the remarks while briefing reporters at the Secretariat on Monday after holding a meeting with the Prime Minister to review ongoing assistance measures for individuals affected by the movement.
According to the minister, the Prime Minister sought detailed updates on the steps taken so far to provide financial assistance, medical support and long-term rehabilitation for victims and their families. Special priority has been given to individuals who sustained severe injuries and have lost their ability to work, with authorities instructed to formulate sustainable livelihood support programmes for them.
He added that the government has also emphasised uninterrupted educational support for children who lost their parents during the uprising. Measures are being explored to ensure scholarships, tuition assistance and other benefits so that their academic progress is not disrupted.
In addition, the minister said the government is reviewing existing lists of freedom fighters to identify and remove any fraudulent claims. A verification process is underway, and those found to have falsely claimed the status will be struck off official records.
He reiterated that only genuine freedom fighters and eligible beneficiaries will receive state benefits, ensuring transparency and accountability in the system.
Officials said further details of the rehabilitation programme will be announced after final approval of the policy framework.
