The government held an inter-ministerial meeting on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assess the evolving security situation in the Middle East and examine its possible implications for Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of aviation, expatriate welfare and regional stability.
The meeting was chaired by Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, MP, and Adviser to the Prime Minister Humayun Kabir, who oversees portfolios including foreign affairs, disaster management and relief, and civil aviation and tourism.
Key officials including Minister for Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury, MP, State Minister Md Nurul Haque, MP, and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat were also present at the discussion.
According to participants, the meeting focused on reviewing recent developments in the Middle East following heightened military tensions and their potential impact on Bangladeshi expatriates living and working in the region.
Authorities also examined disruptions in international flight operations, possible increases in air travel costs and broader economic concerns linked to trade and energy supplies.
Special emphasis was placed on ensuring the safety and security of Bangladeshi nationals abroad, coordinating support for stranded passengers, and maintaining smooth communication between relevant ministries.
Officials reiterated that the government is closely monitoring the situation and strengthening inter-agency coordination to respond swiftly to any new developments that could affect national interests or overseas workers.
