US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen paid a courtesy call on Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in key agricultural and trade sectors.
During the meeting, officials said bilateral collaboration in agriculture, livestock development, technology transfer and trade expansion featured prominently in the discussions. Both sides reviewed opportunities to deepen engagement in areas that could enhance productivity and boost exports.
Welcoming the US ambassador, the agriculture minister underscored the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and the United States, describing Washington as an important development partner.
He highlighted the importance of adopting advanced agricultural technologies, improved farming practices and innovation to accelerate growth in Bangladesh’s agriculture-dependent economy.
The minister also expressed interest in expanding import-export cooperation in agricultural commodities and processing industries, noting that enhanced trade ties could benefit producers and consumers in both countries.
He said Bangladesh is open to collaboration that supports food security, climate-resilient farming and sustainable livestock production.
The US ambassador reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening economic engagement, particularly in the agricultural sector.
He expressed interest in expanding trade opportunities and facilitating greater market access.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture were present at the meeting, which concluded with both sides agreeing to explore further practical steps to enhance cooperation in the coming months.
