Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen along with two commissioners Mian Mohammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid have resigned from their posts.
Commissioner Mian Mohammad Ali Akbar Azizi confirmed the matter to reporters on Tuesday, stating that the resignation letters were submitted to the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat.
He said he resigned due to personal reasons, and clarified that the decision was made voluntarily.
“I have resigned for personal reasons. There was no pressure. I followed due procedure in submitting my resignation. A new commission will be formed, and I wish them success,” he said.
Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen was appointed chairman of the ACC on 10 December 2024. On the same day, Azizi and Brig Gen (retd) Farid were appointed as commissioners. Their appointments were made under Section 6(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 (Act No. 5 of 2004), while Dr Abdul Momen was designated chairman under Section 5(1) of the same Act.
According to the terms of their appointment, the ACC chairman enjoyed the status, salary and benefits equivalent to a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, while the commissioners held rank and privileges equivalent to judges of the High Court Division.
Officials said the government is expected to initiate the process of appointing new members to the ACC in accordance with the law.
